Factors and Multiples

Students apply understanding of multiplication and area to work with factors and multiples.

Fraction Equivalence and Comparison

Students generate and reason about equivalent fractions and compare and order fractions with the following denominators: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 100.

Extending Operations to Fractions

Students learn that a fraction a/b is a product of a whole number 'a' and a unit fraction 1/b, or a/b = a × 1/b, and that n × a/b = (n × a)/b. Students learn to add and subtract fractions with like denominators, and to add and subtract tenths and hundredths.

From Hundredths to Hundred Thousands

Students read, write and compare numbers in decimal notation. They also extend place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers and add and subtract within 1,000,000.

 Multiplicative Comparison and Measurement

Students interpret, represent, and solve multiplicative comparison problems using an understanding of the relationship between multiplication and division. They use this thinking to convert units of measure within a given system from larger to smaller units.

Multiplying & Dividing Multi Digit Numbers

Students multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers using partial products and partial quotients strategies, and apply this understanding to solve multi-step problems using the four operations.

Angles and Angle Measurement

Students learn to draw and identify points, rays, segments, angles, and lines, including parallel and perpendicular lines. Students also learn how to use a protractor to measure angles and draw angles of given measurements, and identify acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles in two-dimensional figures.

Properties of Two Dimensional Shapes

Students classify triangles and quadrilaterals based on the properties of their side lengths and angles, and learn about lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures. They use their understanding of these attributes to solve problems, including problems involving perimeter and area.

Changing Earth

Students will understand patterns of the Earth and will be able to explain landscape changes over time as caused by weathering and erosion.

Structure and Function

 Students will understand that plants and animals have both internal and external structures that serve various functions in growth, survival, behavior, and reproduction. Students will also understand that animals have sense receptors and other times use their intuition to process information in their environments.

Energy and Waves

Students will make observations and provide evidence that energy can be transferred. Students will analyze sound waves to understand the creation, movement, and transfer of sound.

Resourceful Choices: Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy

In this unit, students will understand that the sun and interior of the Earth provide renewable and nonrenewable resources.  These resources can be used in a variety of ways that have both negative and positive impacts to on communities and the environment.  In addition, students will determine the effect on Colorado and its economy.

Before the Borders of Colorado

This unit is a study in the ways that human interactions among people and cultures that have been a part of Colorado’s history have helped shape the area before the boundaries of the state of Colorado were put in place.

Becoming Colorado

This unit is a study in the ways that continued settlement by various groups in Colorado impacted the people already living there, shaped the land, and led to both positive and negative interactions.

Defining Colorado

This unit is a study in the ways that Colorado moved from a territory to a state.

Growth of Colorado

This unit is a study in the ways that Colorado developed as a state.  Through the study of industry growth in Colorado, students examine how positive and negative economic incentives led to the expansion of factories, farming, ranching, transportation, nuclear, computer, and the ski industry.

Colorado Today

This unit is a study in the issues facing Colorado today.  Students examine the history, economics and civics behind some of the major issues in Colorado today.
